We are currently one of a few in the world, an agency specializing in early Health Technology Assessment
A health technology is “an intervention developed to prevent, diagnose or treat medical conditions, promote health; provide rehabilitation; or organise health care delivery. The intervention can be a test, device, medicine, procedure, program or system.” (by Health Technology Assessment International (HTAi), 2022)
What is early Health Technology
Assessment (early HTA)?
HTA is a process that assess the impact and value of a health intervention or technology on different aspects, including economic, social, financial, ethics, among others. Traditional HTA mainly aims to inform policy decision whether to implement or fund a technology or intervention when it has entered the market.
Early HTA, however, has a different focus. With the main purpose to guide health innovators on how to make the best out of their investments and products, early HTA provide a range of information from which technologies to invest and develop to how the market strategy should look like.
Early HTA services we provide
Identify promising innovations
We identify the disease areas to prioritize and scanning for the potential health innovation for the prioritized disease areas. We use available information to evaluate the value for money of a product to determine the potential maximum price of the product and whether it would be cost-effective to invest in research and development.
Set goals for innovation development
Early HTA can identify the target product profile (TPP) that would make the product worth an investment and fit into the healthcare system. This increases the chance for inclusion in public health insurance’s benefits package, when relevant.
Pinpoint most crucial information to maximize clinical trial usefulness
We conduct early HTA to pinpoint the most impactful information to the technology’s cost-effectiveness which should be included in early clinical trials. We assist medical innovators in tailoring their clinical trial designs to collect this essential information to minimize uncertainties.
Training and capacity building
We specialize in training and capacity building for early HTA. Our expertise aims to empower medical innovators with the skills and knowledge to develop health technology efficiently.
What makes HTA support from MIDAS different?
We are a team of multi-disciplinary experts
Ranging from health economist and public health scientist to biomedical engineers, we understand and can combine insights from different fields to yield the results which are the most relevant to the development of a technology and product.
We have a long track record on traditional HTA and public health which is a basis for early HTA
We are supported and operated by HITAP Foundation which runs HITAP, an internationally recognized HTA agency in Thailand, for more than 15 years and the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health of the National University of Singapore which is well respected on its work.
We are based in Asia but our supports extend beyond the borders
Our work can provide especially contextualized results when it comes to Thailand and Asia, but we can also work with international experts for global-level projects.
