On March 24, 2026, Dr. Teerawat Wiwatpanit, Research Program Manager and Research Fellow at the Medical Innovation Development and Assessment Support (MIDAS), conducted a workshop introducing the concept of Early Health Technology Assessment (early HTA) to medical researchers and innovators at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University.
Through the session, Dr. Teerawat introduced the fundamental concepts of health economic evaluation, including cost-effectiveness analysis for medical innovations, the process of public benefit package development, and healthcare coverage.
The session also provided a practical perspective on how early HTA can help ensure that health innovations are valuable, feasible, and evidence-informed from the early stages of the research and development pathway. In addition, participants were introduced to key tools such as economic evaluation and the Target Product Profile (TPP), and how these can be applied to guide innovation development.
